“I resist things that feel wrong, that feel unethical and I have always been anti-anything which sounds like being unjust. Very often this meant being badmouthed as being anti-establishment.”

Thankfully there is Mabel keeping ‘Vapers’ vaping and informed.

Hazel Mabe, vaping activist. Hazel Mabe, vaping activist.

An interview with Hazel Mabe; vaper and activist from IG-ED (Interessengemeinschaft E-Dampfen e.V.), the first and largest German vaping association, and a member EVUN, a forum for all European vapers organisations and individuals to unite.

We were very lucky to have the chance to talk to Hazel Mabe, a lady that is a force to be reckoned with within the German vaping community. We caught up with her over Skype, and asked her not only how she got into vaping, but also how she became involved with IG-ED and EVUN, and found that protesting runs deep in her blood.

Hazel was, as she says ‘confronted with vaping’ by a friend of hers. In the German language, vaping can also mean ‘steaming with anger’ – so when Hazel’s friend posted a comment to say she was vaping, Hazel instantly thought she was angry and…

“For the Children”

24 May

Across The Pond……. we are connected regarding E-Cigarettes and more.

Bolton Smokers Club

I know, I know – we have again and again derided the claim “For the Children”. Zealot MPs use it all the time to persecute smokers.

It is astonishing that there has never been a voice demanding a definition of the word “CHILD”. Never have I seen such a demand. To make things worse, ASH ET AL have deliberately obfuscated the facts by referring to “children and young people”. What is clever about that phrase is that children are, by definition, ‘young people’ so that it is verbally incorrect to say ‘children AND young people’. The use of that phrase immediately introduces confusion.

I have been watching a video of an interview between Prof Robert West and Vapour Trials this evening. You can see the interview here:

David Dorn is a splendid chap. He has gone far beyond what an ordinary vaper might do. He has travelled all over…

Hitchman, McNeill, Brose (2014) Addiction paper on ecigs

17 May

Excellent

Tobacco harm reduction, anti-THR lies, and related topics

by Carl V Phillips

This recent paper in Addiction by Hitchman, McNeill, and Brose, is a commentary calling for an “accurate and evidence-based debate” about e-cigarettes.  I will admit that my favorite part of it is this reference:

14. Phillips C. V.Anti-THR lies and related topics [internet]2014. Available at: http://antithrlies.com/2014/03/07/stanton-glantz-is-such-a-liar-that-even-the-acs-balks/ (accessed 11 March 2014) (Archived at http://www.webcitation.org/6OJPSzZLh on 24 March 2014).

I find it quite an entertaining citation, and for that I want to offer an apology to the authors.  That post was properly cited because it was (in my possibly biased opinion) the best debunking of the spurious gateway claims that was published at the time of their writing.  However, citing the title I published the analysis under must have given the authors pause.  Fortunately they went ahead and did it anyway.

Not that the title is incorrect — it clearly was accurate.  But this blog…

With all due respect Mr Drakeford….

15 May

In the USA, Senator Harkin is the equivalent of Mr. Drakeford. I am sending this as a copy to our Legislatures those that also have such backwards objections to the miraculous invention of E-cigarettes that are saving millions of smokers lives with the potential to change the course of history.

Save e-cigs

Dear Mr Drakeford,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to attend and listen to the debate on Welsh Government proposals for a ban on the use of e-cigarettes in enclosed public spaces, substantially enclosed public places, and places of work in Wales. In your response to the debate you raised a number of issues that cause us concern.

You stated e-cigarettes were renormalising smoking and undermining the ban on smoking in public places.

On both points you were unable to provide any evidence that e-cigarettes were either renormalising smoking or undermining the ban on smoking in public places. However, Professor Robert West, Professor of health psychology and director of tobacco studies at University College London’s department of epidemiology and public health, following his latest research concluded:“Despite claims that electronic cigarettes risk re-normalising smoking, we found no evidence to support this.”[1]

You stated e-cigarettes act as a…

CASAA White Paper: Guide to Civil Disobedience

8 May

Comprehensive explaination of what or how Civil Disobedience is employed and it’s ramifications.

Tobacco harm reduction, anti-THR lies, and related topics

The following is the fourth in the series of CASAA White Papers.  As with the others, it is posted here to allow discussion.  Unlike the previous three, this is not considered a draft.  But discussion is welcome and revisions are possible if important potential improvements are identified.  For those who would like a downloadable formatted version, it is here.  Permission to copy, circulate, and post the downloadable file is granted, so long as nothing is changed.

Does ‘Denormalisation’ Actually Work?

8 May

Masterfully written reality gets voted up.

Frank Davis

From Dick Puddlecote:

Labour MSP Confirms It Wasn’t About Bar Staff

You may not have heard of Ken Macintosh – not surprising because even Ed Miliband struggles to remember him – but he made quite a revelation in the Scottish Parliament yesterday.

I cannot speak for other members, but my main motivation in voting for and supporting the ban on smoking in public places in Scotland was that it would help us to denormalise smoking, so that we would no longer see people smoking in our pubs or cafes or in most other workaday or social situations, and so that we and our children would no longer see smoking as a normal activity. I believe that the ban has been successful in doing exactly that …

Now, we jewel robbers have always known that the smoking ban was installed on the back of lies and deceit, but it’s nice…

The Low Down on Nicotine and Memory

2 May

Another very spot on blog post highlighting the positives with Electronic Cigarettes. E Juice Connoisseur

Image

As pioneers on the forefront of one of the biggest advancements in Health since the dawn of penicillin and the discovery of coffee, we vapers are well aware of the fact that it has been revealed through numerous studies that nicotine, by itself (sans the inclusion of all those nasty carcinogens generally associated with smoking tobacco) is not only harmless but may actually increase one’s mental acuity.  This is a fact that has been circulating around the e-cigarette-enthusiast community for quite some time now.  However, if you’re like me, when pressed in civil debate by the proverbial “haters,” you might be hard-pressed to come up with specific data to support the claim.  This article is being written to alleviate that problem and to add to our arsenal of scientifically-proven information available for immediate regurgitation when put in a position of having to defend e-cigarette technology.  And even if you rarely…
